I don't have a lot to say (such a rarity, I know) because apparently the first day of teaching induces mild brain damage. Completing sentences, holding conversation, and taking care of any minor tasks is very difficult at the moment.
It's the beginning of my second year. I am light years ahead of where I was at this point last year, but I'm still worried. How can I teach these students to read? And what about that long division nonsense? And then what about those more abstract lessons about morals, respect, and self esteem? How can I possibly teach all of this?
I'm thinking these things while going through the basic first day activities. One of these activities was to write information on an index card to let me know more about themselves. I'm sure you're familiar with this: name, birthday, favorite subject, etc. Question number six was "What is one thing you want to learn this year?" The response that made me smile and somehow calmed down my stressful thoughts: "Everything you got."
